This program will be profitable when it can be watched uninterrupted by commercials. It is almost a meditation on the awesome splendor out there. Awesome is a word that has lost great of its value these days but this program invokes dismay. I can’t wait to achieve the headphones on and recede into the interstellar spaces. After watching it I found it a exact challenge to balance the depressing things going on down here with the billion year beauty out there. Dazzling graphics, gracious narration, it weaves a spell. Thank you National Geographic I have waited years for a program like this. This is what computer graphics were made for.

This documentary is, hands down, the most well made documentary on the Universe I have ever seen. I have been watching Discovery Channel and other channels like it since I was a child.

I’ve seen a thousand documentaries on our universe. Nothing even comes conclude to this. I have spent many years contemplating our space in the universe both from religious and philosophical standpoints. I can honestly say that this documentary has played a pivotal role in shaking me out of my “bubble” on how I understanding nearly everything. After first seeing it on National Geographic, I spent months thinking about it. When I search for out at the Ocean now I am aware of who I am and where we really are.

When you accomplish this video, you will lag away from it with an awareness that you never had before, of the unseen astronomically massive universe that we float around on like a spec of dust in the ocean. The most intellectual and fear spirited thing about it, is that its all completely legal. This video takes you on a glide through the universe as if you are watching a Sci Fi adventure. Yet you constantly have to remind yourself that what you’re seeing is really out there. This is all fact.

Someone else aptly described this video in better words than I can:

“it was as if time were standing calm. The narrator takes you on an extraordinary waddle from the face of the earth to the edge of the Universe (as we know it) in a heavenly visual articulation of the cosmos. I have literally watched this almost everyday since first seeing it on TV. The graphics are top notch and extremely still. It feels as though you are proper there, soaring thru the galaxies at home and scheme beyond. The verbage in this program is comprehensible and the terminology basic enough for these in-depth concepts of Physics and Geology to advance to life and idea for even the most un-mathematical type of minds. This program is the most captivating and knowledge envoking of any I have seen yet about the Universe.”

French director Arnaud Desplechin’s film works as one of the best mult-layered movies of the genre, which in many respects takes its conventions and turns them on their head. Not your feel satisfactory, holiday coming home movie but one which inverts and mischievously perverts viewer expectations and instead dares to substitute loyal people for the usual suspects. The first rate acting (the legendary Catherine Deneuve and the not as well known but no less talented Desplechin actors Mathieu Almaric and Emmanuelle Devos) takes a stale genre site - mother (Denueve) suffers from cancer and needs a bone marrow transplant - and explores the generational conflicts that pain this family and provocatively and evocatively deals with the issues of mother love; forgiveness; sibling rivalry; trouble for thwarted dreams and life changing losses, and even fidelity itself. For film lovers who savor characters in unconventional situations, this film will continue to reward upon future viewings. Those requiring ancient Hollywood plotting and endings should probably survey elsewhere. I would add that the director is one of the best working today. One of the best films of 2008.

A Christmas Fable

Think the opposite of everything the movie Dan in Steady Life stands for with one exception, which is already saying the movie is unbelievable. A family gathers during Christmas time, the matriarch awaits her families bone marrow tests to seek if they are a match so she can live, and the dreadful boy brother who has been excommunicated returns. As cliché as that sounds the only thing cliché is the title and to refer aid to Dan in Precise Life the only thing loyal is the steady in that title. In keeping it valid the film’s complex characters have role ambiguity and viewers are left with an launch ending. The only thing in Record wrapped with a bow are the presents.

Oh, however, Dan in accurate life had the gorgeous Juliette Binoche (also in this years extraordinary Flight of the Red Balloon) and Sage also has many attractive and talented French actresses that could gain any act seem classy. The cinematography is also magnificent as is the obtain.

Speaking about the gain mp3 download of the soundtrack from this very space is over three times cheaper.

“Key Largo” is one of the mammoth film dramas. It is truly refreshing, in this day of “in your face” violence and sex, to survey a film that builds tension almost entirely through dialog and characterization. This is one of Humphrey Bogart’s most underrated performances. Bogart plays a returning WWII obsolete who has become somewhat jaded by his war experience. He comes to south Florida to visit the father (Lionel Barrymore-Mr. Potter in “It’s a Fabulous Life) of a stupid war buddy, who owns a hotel and is living with his son’s widow, played by Lauren Bacall. Bacall, especially, is grand in that she has very few speaking parts and communicates apprehension and inflame primarily through looks, glances, and body movements. This is in dissimilarity to her previous roles (”To Have and Have Not” and “The Ample Sleep̶ ;) in which was glamorous and sensual. In a plot she is barely recognizable here. Edward G. Robinson is perfect as the skittish and easily manipulated gangster, Johnny Rocco. The entire film centers around Rocco and his cronies taking over the hotel and keeping the above characters hostage during a hurricane. The movie becomes a psychological cat and mouse game between Bogart and Robinson. At first, Bogart’s “head” tells him to peruse out for himself, but later he follows his “heart” in attempting to protect and free the hostages. Bogart is understated in communicating a man who is psychologically wounded by the war and who questions the very values he and others fought and died for. By the waste of the film he becomes a intrepid figure, but not in the mundane or facile sense. He is mettlesome in that he sublimates his beget feelings of survival for that of the greater kindly and recognizes the need for one man to fight the contaminated represented by Rocco. This is directed by John Huston (”The Maltese Falcon̶ ;) and in spite of the fact that all the action takes space in objective a few rooms, his direction is dynamic and action packed.

Somewhat enigmatically, the text only “Unhurried the Scenes” Special Feature on the KEY LARGO dvd tells us that director John Huston was so exasperated with producer Jerry Wald for forcing him to deal with the “delicacies” in Maxwell Anderson’s stage play of the same name that he barred him from the status. What’s more likely is that co-screenwriters Huston and Richard Brooks gutted Anderson’s play of most everything but the title, took a few veiled swipes at the House Un-American Committee, and threw an improbable cast at it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Key Largo! Click Here

Claire Trevor won the Best Supporting Oscar for her role as a boozy, outmoded nightclub singer, but Edgar G. Robinson steals the expose. He’s simply astonishing as Johnny Rocco, an aged gang lord (reportedly styled after real-life gangster Lucky Luciano) with satisfied dreams of returning to the outmoded days - maybe they’ll reinstate prohibition! Lionel Barrymore plays a crusty outmoded hotel keeper, Lauren Bacall his daughter-in-law, and Humphrey Bogart is the ex-Army officer blown into town to utter the widowed Bacall, and Barrymore, about her unhurried husband’s brave military career.

This was Bacall’s third movie with Bogart, and they seem to tumble in like by osmosis this time around. Bogart plays the disillusioned vet with collected dignity, which works for the movie’s sake but robs the audience of the opportunity to examine any high sparks ignite between his and Robinson’s character.

Ah well. We can’t have everything. This is collected a enormous movie, one of Bogart’s most underrated gems.

Creating a magnificently filmed biographical yarn of the rise of the huge Genghis Khan is a valiant adventure in film history. Although the film has the see of success, bringing the Khan to life is only partially realized. Section record, fraction history, Genghis Kahn steadily rises to power, making valiant battle decisions and faltering rarely. What is missing from this solid film is a core of passion. Too many scenes spin.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea! Click Here

Director Shinichiro Sawai wanted to be circumspect in telling the fable of Temujin, who finally unites the Mongols to claim the title Genghis Khan. But in presenting Temujin as a man growing into leadership, Sawai has to evade some truths. The Temujin of this film, played by Takashi Sorimachi, is thoughtful and trustworthy, almost to a fault, a reputation at odds with the one of history.

Toward the slay of the film, Khan tells Kulan, his female soldier, that blood must be spilled to originate borders, a seeming contradiction that is sensible to him. Indeed, having a whole world without borders is perhaps a euphemism for total world domination. Another omission from history is that the Khan left his DNA all over Asia and Europe yet none of this is share of the fable. In fact, the movie implies that Temujin is faithful to the one wife. It’s diminutive telling points like these that form the film less effective. Having a hero without warts is terribly unrealistic and unreasonable.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea! Click Here

The film is episodic in nature, presenting key moments in Temujin’s life, showing what manner of man he is all along his life’s dash. Unusually kind and considerate toward his women, Temujin, in fact, reveals a major life issue: whether he is truly a child of his father and the vast blue wolf or if he is blood vow from a warring tribe, of which one member took his mother to wife for a while.

History repeats itself when his fill wife is abducted and recaptured by Temujin, only to ogle she is pregnant. Is this baby his or the child of the enemy? When he captures the girl soldier, she insists on death rather than be taken as a spoil of war. Temujin shows his magnaminity by allowing her to become one of his soldiers, then later she invites him to occupy her as concubine. The director chooses to depict Temujin as an equal rights proponent when history would most likely vow this.

His loyalty to his childhood friend is the most telling episode of Temujin’s character. The final scene between them is painfully boring, again to train the inner turmoil that Temujin feels.

The longest drawn out scene is the naming of Temujin as the enormous Genghis Khan, a scene that went on and on and on. In difference, the final scene is the impending attack upon the Tall Wall of China and the Jin Dynasty with the suggestion of extending the kingdom to the ends of the Earth and Sea.

Even with the film’s omissions and perhaps exiguous shifting of truth, “Genghis Kan: To the ends of the Earth and Sea” is a rewarding movie experience. The vistas of Mongolia alone are enough to glimpse this legend film.

Genghis Khan was one of the tremendous military minds of history. He built an empire that spread from China into Europe. His armies fought in recent Hungary and even, if I remember correctly, into Vienna. One of his few failings, in fact, was was attempt to invade Japan. An distress that was foiled by the modern kamakaze.

This film tells the life of Genghis wait on when he was objective Temujin. We view him coming of age, meeting his future wife and blood-brother, and learning military tactics. The yarn leads from there up to his rise to power, eventually becoming Khan and ends with him about to invade China.

Technically the movie is quite salubrious! Filmed on residence in Mongolia, you spy some of the areas where the battles actually happen. The battles themselves, when you eye them in the film, are delicate! I understand there were thousands of extras alive to in the film, and you really gawk them. The only accurate scrape with the battle scenes is that they are rather brief.

The costumes are impressive, and the sets are well done. Appreciate the wheeled yurt. :)

Where the movie fails is that it seems rather disjointed at parts. I’m betting there are enormous parts of the film we aren’t seeing. I don’t know if they are available in a special edition overseas or something, but they are positive aren’t here.

The film gets four stars from me, but the DVD gets exactly zero. Why? First, there’s no extras. At all. Zero. There’s trailers, but I never count those. There’s also a very annoying trailer at the begining of the DVD which you aren’t allowed to skip over. I’m also rather confused as to why Funimation, which apparently specializes in anime, is releasing this DVD here in the States.

Still and all, I liked this movie. I don’t know that I’ll look it again, but I’m gay to have watched it once.

The classic captivating series “Family Guy”, follows up the success of its return to the Prime Time lineup, with a DVD movie, “Stewie Griffin, the Untold Account”. The film is a three fragment account wrapped around and intro and wrap up that parodies a Hollywood premiere and party.

The jokes flit quick and bawdy and pull no punches. Every pop culture reference no matter how obscure and some of the more controversial issues of the day are tossed in, and for the most share, work.

The myth follows the unsuitable genius Stewie, who after a arrive death experience decides to change his ways as Hell does not have great appeal for him. After the family gets Tivo, Stewie spots a person on television that is a spitting image of him. Convinced that the man is his genuine father, Stewie and the family dog Brian, join the hormonally driven Quagmire on a unpleasant country bound.

When Stewie reaches the waft he is tremulous to see the accurate identity of the man which will propel the remained of the memoir.

While the explain has a few misfires, it is mostly filled with one effective joke after another. The laughs were constant and I found myself enjoying every moment of the film. The laughs are very capable, and if you are a fan of the reveal and do not mind some biting, and outrageous humor, this is a titanic rush.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story! Click Here

Fans of the exhibit will care for the usual interplay of the characters and the familiar style and pacing as the film plays out like a regular episode of the prove, as it was initiated as a three piece episode. The inclusion of segments that would not have likely made it past the networks Standards and Practices department only ads to the enjoyment of the expose as it is nice to witness a shown known for pushing the envelope taking steps that it would not otherwise be able to seize.

4 stars out of 5.

For the Man Who Has Everything: Adapted from the Alan Moore comical. Superman is trapped in the perfect dream world by the villainous Mongul, and Batman and Wonder Woman have to build him. Strong, dramatic personal sage for Superman, with some suited acting, music, and animation all around.

The Return: The extended JLU roster must prevent the android AMAZO (voiced by Star Stir actor Robert Picardo) from taking revenge on Lex Luthor. This episode really shows off the current half-hour format, with a tightly-plotted myth that has both myth action and strong characterizations. Toss in some surprise cameos and appearances with more tall animation, and you have another winner.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Justice League Unlimited - Joining Forces! Click Here

The Greatest Memoir Never Told: While the League has an sage battle in downtown Metropolis, c-list glory hound Booster Gold learns what it means to be a legal hero. A lighthearted comedy episode. Not as intelligent as the other two episodes, but quiet well executed and worth checking out.

It’s a shame really, if this disc was widescreen it’d be worth buying, as these episodes showcase the kind of stories JLU can assert in 30 minutes. But it’s another cheap release from WB, with equally cheap cloak art (stale GL form, and also Aquaman, who isn’t in these episodes) . Why WB continues to flood the market with these releases instead of decent boxed sets the first time around is a mystery.

As most of the reviewers have eminent, why does WB hiss on releasing these pathetic 3-episodes-per-disk DVDs? I would willingly pay for JLA Season 1, 2, etc. In fact, I would pay for the whole series in a single box location. Three episodes per disk is annoying, at best.

Please WB, accept a clue and release JLA the method you did Superman & Batman . . .

Now, if we can unprejudiced accumulate Fox to release X-Men & Spider-Man in Box Sets!!!!! . . .

The only thing better than watching “VISIONS OF BRITAIN & IRELAND” is doing the isles in person. This is next best, for distinct. I’ve been to all 4 countries (England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales) and this area does a gorgeous job of relating the beauty of the country, architecture, cities, and historical places. It offers a vantage point obtainable only from the air. Even if you’ve been there, you’ll be pleased this film documentation.

Each of the 4 DVDs is narrated by a person with the local dialect, but well understood. Closed caption is available on the Ireland and Wales DVDs but not significant, except for seeing some of the spelling of names and words. The issue of the person describing what you are seeing combined with the background music, which too, relates to the particular country being shown, adds to the soothing pleasure of this travelogue style documentary.

The only warning: Only after watching, this region might influence the budget. You will want to waft to Britain and explore it for yourself. It’s that enticing.

The product description is deceiving in that it falls short in revealing how very noteworthy this spot covers in film. For example the England DVD Scene Index lists no less than 69 locations including Stonehenge, Dover, Bath, Harrods, & so grand more. 75 minutes, including 19 minutes of “bonus footage” not seen on public television.

Scotland is 88 minutes including the “bonus footage.”

Wales is 58 minutes with unseen “bonus footage.”

Ireland, both Northern Ireland and Come By. of Ireland, is 75 minutes with the “bonus footage.”

Planing a spin to Europe? Seek this prior to setting your itinerary.

Genealogy minded? Behold where your family originated, these DVDs conceal many centuries.

Incapable of proceed? Here is handsome, dramatic visualization of more of the British Isles than one person could visit in months of costly recede.

British book lovers will delight in SEEing locations described in novels.

Every recede agent should have these playing in their waiting room. Every library should offer this area to its users. Large for watching while on the treadmill–walk the skies of the British Isles.

This film is one of the best things that I have seen advance out of the GITS franchise. I have watched the movie several times, each time enjoying even more. I would give a description of the location, but I will not end it for you. My only complaint about Solid Plot Society is that it borrows ideas from both of the feature-length movies. If you liked GITS: SAC, and most specially 2nd GIG, you will luxuriate in this movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ghost In The Shell - Solid State Society! Click Here

Note: It is dubbed in English, unlike Innocence. Amazon unprejudiced has that fact incorrect

Solid Residence Society is hopefully a imprint of what is to arrive in the world of Ghost in the Shell. After Stand Alone Complex’s 2nd GIG, I was definitely left with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The pacing of the 2nd GIG felt uneven and the legend felt more convoluted than tastefully complex, creating an adequate but not perfect addition to the GitS series. However, Solid Region Society takes the best from the Stand Alone Complex series and in exiguous under two hours presents a chronicle as rich in detail and as lovingly complex as the series preceding it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ghost In The Shell - Solid State Society! Click Here

A gargantuan plus of the movie is that instead of feeling like an overstretched episode, it feels more like a long arc of quality episodes stringed together while unruffled feeling cinematic in its presentation. Solid Status Society gives us everything we inquire of in a GitS story: a sci-fi universe that draws you in but never overwhelms, continuity in character development, rich and brilliant dialogue and place that almost seems plausible down the road, and of course, some light philosophy and shades of grey. Even if you aren’t an anime or a strict sci-fi fan, you might fair be pleased this one.

There are plenty of DVDs out on the market today with episodes of television shows from the 1950s and 1960s that have fallen into the “public domain.” Many of them are cheaply achieve together and, visually, perceive it. Not so with releases from the Falcon Recount Group. By and substantial, their releases stare better than the mammoth majority of DVDs with older television shows. The reason for this is that they have done digital restoration of the prints included on this station.

What I like about this DVD is the big variety of shows included. Yes, some of the shows, like Dragnet, the Lone Ranger, Red Skelton, etc., are available on other DVDs, but they have also included some shows like Racket Squad, Mr. & Mrs. North, and Sea Hunt that are either rarely or never seen on video/DVD. I hadn’t seen Sea Hunt since its syndication race in the 1960s. What a spacious reveal and, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only episode available anywhere on DVD (wish there were more episodes of Sea Hunt on DVD) .

While this disk is more of a “potpourri” of different types of television shows from the 1950s, Falcon also offers three other DVDs, including ones with television Detectives, Westerns, and Comedies. If you are nostalgic for this stout era in television, these DVDs are the blueprint to go. Highly recommended!

This DVD station is unbiased dumb terrible.

I always warned students at the beginning of each year that I had screened “The Paper Plug” once again and was enthusiastic in using the Socratic intention to pace the dinky tumblers of their minds. Certainly this was the film that made me want to curb my innate desire to stand up in the classroom and pontificate on every subject under the sun.

Ostensibly the film is about the pressures of first year students at Harvard Law School, but since most of us do not want to become lawyers, know any lawyers, have any dealings with lawyers or even sight television programs with lawyers, “The Paper Move” ultimately succeeds as a film about wanting to learn and learning to deem. At the heart of the film is James Hart (Timothy Bottoms), near from Minnesota to learn at the feet of the spacious Professor Charles Kingsfield. Despite some painful moments of confrontation in the classroom with his would be mentor-my favorite: “Mr. Hart, here is a dime. Grasp it, call your mother, and scream her there is serious doubt about you ever becoming a lawyer”-Hart finds he can play the game and play it well. Having given his mind over to Kingsfield, the seek information from then becomes whether his heart and soul will follow as well. The other members of his examine group (which includes Edward Herrmann and James Naughton), do different choices and remove different paths in order to survive the year. By the ruin of the film Hart is more alone than he was at the beginning.

As Kingsfield, John Houseman is the noteworthy center of the film. A producer and drama teacher for almost half a century, Houseman won the 1973 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and began a original career as an actor in films and a pitchman in television commercials (however, this was not Houseman’s first film, since I know he played an admiral in the political thriller “Seven Days in May̶ ;) . Indeed, Houseman went on to play the Kingsfield character in the ambitious television versions of the movie. However, it is notable to tag that those who knew Houseman as a producer or teacher were always speedy to point out that he really was acting in “The Paper Accelerate.” There might be Harvard professors fighting over the honor of being the exact Kingfield, but Houseman was indeed unbiased doing a role.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Paper Chase! Click Here

As the autocratic master of his domain, Kingsfield is very great the antithesis of the outmoded dedicated teacher usually presented in films about school, a point driven home in the film’s final meeting between Hart and Kingsfield. If there is a delighted ending in this film, it is achieved by Hart’s character on a personal, almost private level.

The novel current by John Jay Osborn, Jr. was brought to the film my director James Bridges, who also did the screenplay. Although the sub-plot where Hart discovers the young woman of his affections (Lindsay Wagner) is in fact (gasp!) Kingsfield’s daughter is decidedly contrived, overall the film is an radiant and thoughtful allotment. If you are a teacher, or are thinking about becoming a teacher, “The Paper Fling” is unbiased as worthy recommended viewing as the more used fare as such classics as “Goodbye, Mr. Chips,” “To Sir, With Esteem,” “Up the Down Staircase,” or more contemporary efforts such as “Songs of the Heart.”

Well… I DID catch this class — Contract Law — and I took it at Harvard Law School. The class was not ~exactly~ like the one presented in the film, but my Harvard experience was comely distinguished like the film.

I saw the film in the theatre, originally, weeks before I started classes at Harvard and it was as if Kingsfield directed his questions into the audience and I wanted to dive under the theatre seat. Obviously I had not read the cases. “Hawkins versus McGee” may have been the first case, but I defy anyone to gain “Carbolic Smoke Ball” in their editions of West’s casebook on Contracts.

My believe behold group was blooming remarkable like the one shown in the film, except there were women in ours, so “The Paper Bolt” is blooming considerable of a “buddy film” in that women play shapely distinguished of the relieve role — Kingsfield’s daughter and the ever suffering Ashley who is disarming in her performance as she hands Hart the firearm her husband nearly uses on himself.

Yet, these guys are very staunch and the movie captured the men of my first year explore group, except for the effete Bell who they would have chomped down for breakfast — better that they had Tom Coast from “The Firm” add even more colour to the colourless first year students than Bell, “as in liberty Bell.”

Yet for its dated 1970’s sexist subplots and sometimes humorous characters, John Housman manages to bear it all together as the quintessential Harvard professor — and don’t win me unpleasant — these expansive outmoded men are unruffled alive and well and trudge those halls working on those of us student who advance into those classes with our “skulls chunky of mush.”

To this day I am deeply moved when Kingsfield describes his “diminutive questions” spinning the tumblers of our minds and in so doing how this process led us to learn how to relate ourselves.

Dated, quaint, and sometimes funny, this film never fails to recede me to reach tears and a recollection of what those magic years at Harvard were all about and what the process of learning, not unbiased passing an exam, was all about.
